Hormone Focused Naturopath in Edmonton

We have experience with a wide range of hormonal concerns

At TruMed Clinic all of our Naturopaths deal heavily with hormonal concerns with our Edmonton patients.

We use all available test methods for hormone testing: blood, urine and salivary hormone testing. Our Naturopathic Doctors offer various Natural hormone treatments including herbs & vitamins.

IV Therapy may be suggested to improve energy and mood in those with hormone imbalances while we wait for hormone balancing treatments to fully begin working.

IV Therapy is most frequently used if there are residual energy, mood or cognitive issues after hormone balance has been achieved.

Hormone imbalances our Naturopaths commonly see:

PMS

PCOS

Menopause

Heavy Menses

Adrenal Issues

Thyroid Issues

Libido Issues

Mood imbalances

Fatigue
Difficulty Falling Asleep

Frequent Waking
Acne
Peri-menopause
Weight Gain
Endometriosis

Water Retention

Our Naturopaths focus on hormones in Edmonton

Hormone Testing Edmonton

Our Naturopaths often start with salivary hormone testing with many of our Edmonton clients.

Salivary testing is low cost, effective and correlates well clinically.

Saliva testing is also a reflection of free hormone levels that's actually reaching the target tissues. It's painless (no needles!), convenient (done at home!) and can reflect multiple time points.

Saliva is also great for Cortisol testing as it can give standardized conditions for morning values whereas blood Cortisol is susceptible to major swings and doesn't reflect free tissue Cortisol anyway.

Our Naturopathic Clinic also offers Edmonton blood based hormone testing.

Blood hormone testing is great for Thyroid Testing, Iron and is the lowest priced testing.

Blood tests also allow easy communication between our Naturopathic Doctors and other health care providers like your Medical Doctor.

We occasionally use blood based hormone testing because it's also low cost and the results are reported rapidly.

Our Naturopathic Doctors use DUTCH Dried Urinary Hormone Testing as well when we want the most possible information about your hormones and their metabolites.

We can see a full spread of Estrogens and Androgens (male hormones) and their metabolic pathways.

DUTCH Urine Testing can also give us data on Serotonin, Dopamine and Melatonin.

DUTCH testing has great detail but it can get pricey and sometimes gives more data than what's needed in simple cases.

We also look at nutrient levels when it comes to hormone deficiencies.

For instance, in testosterone deficiency, our Naturopathic Doctors screen for deficiencies in Vitamin D, K, as well as Manganese, Boron, Magnesium and Zinc.

When it comes to repletion of nutrients our Naturopaths may use oral or IV Therapy if we need faster, more aggressive replenishment of nutrients.

Hormone Treatment Edmonton

Herbs and supplements are commonly used by our Naturopaths to balance hormone levels gently.

Our Naturopathic Doctors have a full array of herbal and supplementary treatments to increase or decrease estrogen, increase progesterone, increase or decrease testosterone, cortisol and DHEA.

Many of the treatments that our Naturopathic Doctors use have clinical studies to support their use.

We always try to have evidence backed hormonal treatments at our Naturopathic Clinic.

For instance, in Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome where male hormones are high our NDs usually administer NAC (N-Acetyl-Cysteine) which decreased DHEA by 29% and Testosterone by 56% in a clinical trial.

Whereas, in both men and women, to increase Testosterone we may administer Eurycoma Longifolia an herb that was shows in a clinical trial to increase Salivary testosterone by 37% after 4 weeks.

We also work on gut health, and liver health in many of our hormone balancing cases.

Our Naturopathic Doctors are knowledgeable in Bio-identical Hormones and Natural Desiccated Thyroid.

At time of writing, Naturopathic Doctors don't prescribe hormones in Alberta. However, if needed, we may suggest stronger hormonal treatments such as bioidentical hormones and dessicated thyroid through referrals to collaborative Health Professionals.

We usually don't use IV therapy for hormone balancing but it can be helpful in addressing residual issues that are still present even after proper hormone balance has been achieved. IV Glutathione can also help with improving liver function for hormone health.

Thyroid and Adrenal Health

Dr. Muradov is experienced in Thyroid and Adrenal Hormone balancing.

Our Naturopaths often see Subclinical Hypothyroidism and Hypoadrenalism ("adrenal fatigue") as common concerns that results in fatigue, weight gain, low mood and poor concentration.

Hypothyroidism can also result in cold extremities, menstrual irregularities, hair loss, constipation and depression

Subtle abnormalities in Thyroid hormone can result in having one or a few of these symptoms and our Naturopaths screen our Edmonton patients for Thyroid concerns that may have been missed through conventional testing methods.

For thyroid health: Free T3, Free T4, TSH, thyroid anti-bodies, Basal Body Temperature and Iodine levels and are all measured.

Although Naturopathic Doctors don't prescribe hormones in Alberta, if needed,  we may refer you for desiccated thyroid through referrals to collaborative Health Professionals.

For adrenal health: Cortisol and DHEA are measured - commonly overlooked by standard medical analysis. Hypocortisolism is an extremely common cause of fatigue, poor stress tolerance and sleep disturbances that we see at our Edmonton clinic.

Cortisol measurement with Saliva is our most common test approach with this hormone - typically an "AM cortisol" test but often times we do a 4-point cortisol test especially if there are sleep disturbances present.

Occasionally our Naturopathic doctors use IV therapy to improve iodine, zinc and selenium levels in our hypothyroid patients or B5, Vitamin C and licorice in our adrenal fatigue patients.
